History: UUCJ partnership with the Unitarian Church in Bozod, Romania began in 1993, spear-headed by Bob Towers. It was active until 2000, when the relationship became dormant. In 2007, Hungarian born member Marta Zsemberovzsky made a journey to Hungary, including Bozod in her itinerary. There she met and stayed with the Bozod minister and his wife, and attended services at the Bozod Unitarian Church. With renewed commit-ment, Marta returned to UUCJ to foster a unique relationship between the two churches. As a result, UUCJ has rejoined the UU Partner Church Council, and a group of interested members are beginning to work on projects and goals.
Partner Church Goals:
- Provide continuing education and information to UUCJ and other UU churches.
- Conduct religion/language/culture classes by popular demand.
- Provide the Bozod community with needed assistance (they celebrate 200th anniversary in 2010, and the church needs repairs).
- Support a pilgrimage for interested members which will include a visit to our sister Untarian Church in Bozod, Romania.
Your Involvement: Interested persons can
- attend bi-monthly meetings of the Partner Church Committee;
- participate in fund raising activities and other activities related to Partner Church projects -- for example, the annual Hungarian Dinner that we so much enjoy;
- consider making a pilgrimage to our Partner Church and surrounding areas!
